“Retiring Brazos County Sheriff’s Deputy Lorenzo Alonzo is a quiet man, but 30 years ago the trailblazer didn’t need words to leave a lasting impression, according to those who know him.

Alonzo was one of the first Hispanic deputies in Brazos County - a feat that likely served to break barriers for future Hispanic officers, the soft-spoken deputy acknowledged.

Last week, the 65-year-old announced his retirement after spending most of the past three decades as a patrol deputy in Brazos County. Alonzo’s last day was June 30, but he will retain the title of honorable retired deputy and will serve in a reserve capacity, he said.”
