“Fifteen years ago, no one in the Saluda County school system spoke Spanish.

When the first Hispanic students enrolled in the fall of 1991, administrators quickly recruited a Puerto Rican preacher’s wife to teach.

Now, one of every seven students in the Saluda school system is Hispanic. Saluda schools received $21,997 this past school year to teach English to those students.”
