Police check Latino tax return gripes in Des Moines, Iowa

“It could take months for authorities to complete an investigation into complaints by several Latino families about a Des Moines woman who prepared federal income tax forms, a Des Moines police official said Monday.

Sgt. Joe Gonzalez said police are working with Polk County prosecutors to get to the bottom of numerous families’ complaints against Tamara Aguilar. Dozens of Hispanics have alleged that Aguilar charged immigrants high fees to obtain federal taxpayer identification numbers, and promised customers they would receive tax refunds that never arrived, according to Gonzalez and Latino groups.”
