Breast cancer cases rise among Hispanic women. Doctors: Survival rate also lower due to late diagnosis

“Between 2000 and 2003, the number of breast cancer cases among Anglo women dropped in Nueces County, while cases of Hispanic women gradually increased to surpass Anglos by 81 to 80 in 2003, according to the most recent data available from the Texas Cancer Registry.

In 2000, Anglo women were the predominant racial group affected by breast cancer.

In Public Health Region 11, which includes Corpus Christi and surrounding counties, 440 cases of breast cancer among Hispanic women were reported to the Cancer Registry in 2003, while only 259 cases among Anglo women were reported.”
