“This year the local Hispanic population awakened to protest various immigration and border security proposals.
Now activists hope that an increased voter turnout for a November bond election will signal that the area’s normally sleepy Hispanic electorate is truly energized.
“With the excitement generated from the immigration protest, we’re hoping that Latino voters will want to continue to make their voices heard,” said Brenda Reyes, a political consultant and former president of the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.”
