“Israel Mendez is dedicated to bringing some of Mexico to children who, in spite of their background, may know surprisingly little about their heritage.

Mendez, of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, is in the third week of a six-week teacher summer exchange program between the United States and its neighbor to the south. He’s in charge of a classroom full of third-graders at Middleton-Burney Elementary School. It’s part of the Putnam County Schools Migrant Education Program.”
