“Univision Communications Inc. (NYSE:UVN) today announcedthat the Univision Network, the leading Spanish-language televisionnetwork in the U.S., has been honored for its excellence in journalismwith the prestigious 2006 Edward R. Murrow Award. The first and onlySpanish-language network to ever receive this national award, theUnivision Network has now been honored a total of six times by theRadio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA). This year,”Primer Impacto,” Univision’s highly rated newsmagazine, wasrecognized in the category of Outstanding News Series for the fourthtime.
The program was honored for its three-part series entitled”Angeles en el infierno” (Angels in Hell). The series aired in Octoberand November of last year and presented shocking first-hand accountsof the exploitation of children in three Latin American countries. Aninvestigative team from “Primer Impacto” traveled to El Salvador,Nicaragua, and Mexico to uncover the disturbing child labor practicesthat exist there, apparently with little impunity from the localgovernments involved.”
