“Sports- writers are supposed to be apolitical. As much as newspapers like to be impartial, it is no secret that some papers lean more in one direction or another. The sports section is, I believe, an escape from that. After all, it’s hard to have a political take on a sport.

I went into sports because I hated all the mudslinging that goes on in politics. Sports is supposed to be fun, and it has been. But I also learned that sometimes, even if you don’t want to, you have to take a stand.”
