Osceola leaders reject Hispanic-voting ruling in Florida

“Osceola County commissioners Tuesday defied a federal judge’s suggestion that they devise a new system to protect Hispanic voting rights, despite his warning that the county’s practice of electing commissioners at-large appears to be illegal.

After a 90-minute closed-door meeting with their lawyers, commissioners said they will continue to defend an election system that was approved by 61 percent of the county’s voters in 1996.”
