“Religious leaders and people of faith from throughout the Salem area want to do something about what they say is a growing climate of tension in the community surrounding the issue of immigration.

“We have been called by the Gospel to do something,” said Sarah Harkness, the coordinator of the United Methodist Hispanic/Latino Ministry Training Institute in Salem. “We can no longer remain silent.”

In response to immigration concerns, faith leaders representing 20 churches in Marion County will have a news conference Friday in Salem.”
