Latino families frustrated by tax dispute in Des Moines, Iowa

“A Des Moines woman claims a local tax preparer promised her family would receive a larger refund if on her tax return she claimed family members who lived in Mexico as dependents.

Instead, Erica Chavez of Des Moines said she lost $900 and received a notice from the Internal Revenue Service that her tax return had been improperly filed.

“We feel so bad about the whole thing,” Chavez said. “This is our first time filing taxes, and we get cheated.”"
