“It is probably safe to say that Rafael Amargo’s “Poet in New York,” performed on Friday night at City Center, is in a class by itself. Mr. Amargo, a Spanish flamenco dancer and actor, has described the ambitious show as a flamenco musical. Nuggets of traditional flamenco dance and music are tucked into this suite of pieces, along with jazz and folk-style numbers and a stand-alone acrobatic ballet solo, choreographed and performed to wild cheers by Rasta Thomas, a guest dancer.”
