“Immigration seems to be the only Latino issue of interest to leading newsmagazines, according to a recent Arizona State University study.

The study examined the way Time, Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report portrayed Latinos. Most of the stories involving Latinos were about immigration and portrayed Latinos negatively, according to the study.

Of nearly 1,550 stories published in 2005, 18 (1.2 percent) were specifically about Latinos. Less than 14 percent of the stories - 214 - mentioned a Latino, which the study cited as problematic considering that Latinos are the fastest-growing population in the U.S. “
