City board tables vote on Latino grocery again in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Brother and sister Hector and Sandra Martinez feel they are being discriminated against because their plans to open a Latino grocery store in the city have been delayed.

“For the second time in the last two months, the Wilkes-Barre Zoning Hearing Board tabled plans Wednesday for the opening of a grocery store called “La Esperanza” and a sporting goods store in a vacant building that was previously Tredinnick’s Repair and Rental at 285 Old River Road.

The 3,000-square-foot store would include American and Latino products like Mexican spices, Mexican soda, canned foods and tortillas and sporting goods equipment, Hector Martinez said.”
