“Governor Bredesen said Tennessee is offering to send 100 National Guard troops to the Mexican border to help with President Bush’s plan to stem the influx of illegal immigrants.
Under Bush’s plan, up to 6,000 National Guard members will be sent to the four southern border states to free up immigration agents so they can focus on border security. The guardsmen won’t perform significant law enforcement duties.”
