“Energized by the immigration marches that brought millions of Americans into the streets this spring, the most influential group of Latino elected officials in the country is about to open its annual convention in Dallas this week. The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), which represents about 6,000 Latino politicians nationwide, has announced an ambitious convention agenda aimed at raising the education, health and wealth of the community. With both Republicans and Democrats, Puerto Ricans and Mexicans, Colorado and Florida all headed to Dallas, the event promises to be the World Cup of Latino political activities in a year that has already seen unprecedented energy in the community.
The “We are America” convention starts on Thursday, June 22 and runs through Sunday, June 25. During the convention, Latino leaders will be issuing daily statements on national politics, community affairs and new strategies for political participation. To arrange interviews and/or receive a comprehensive convention agenda, please call (773) 447-1763. “
