U.N. panel targets Puerto Rico

“The United Nations committee on decolonization issued a draft resolution this week calling for the United States to start a process for Puerto Ricans to choose their island’s future.

After hearing from some 40 Puerto Rican petitioners from the pro-independence, pro-statehood and the current commonwealth camps, the draft was approved unanimously by members of the committee. The group’s formal name is the Special Committee on the Situation with regard to the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples.”
