Newspapers fight for Latino market’s top spot in North Carolina

“A newspaper war is brewing in the local Latino media scene, pitting longtime leader La Noticia against splashy upstart Que Pasa and putting publishers Jose Isasi and Hilda Gurdian in a he said-she said debate that will ultimately be settled by readers — and advertisers.

Que Pasa, part of Winston-Salem-based Latino Communications Inc., already had free weeklies in the Triad and the Triangle before it launched a Charlotte edition in 2004. La Noticia opened in 1996 and published its first issue a year later, rapidly becoming the local leader in Hispanic newspapers.”
