Knowledge is Power!
“The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., applauded Monday’s Colorado Supreme Court ruling declaring as unconstitutional an anti-immigrant initiative which would have adversely affected the health and safety of Colorado communities. Had it been on the ballot, I-55 would have denied nonemergency state and local services to undocumented persons residing in Colorado. In addition, it would have also subjected police, first responders, and other civil servants to lawsuits for doing their jobs.
“Legitimate public frustration with our broken immigration system has fueled attempts such as this one to have voters support misguided initiatives that sound like something, but in reality offer no solutions,” said NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguí. “NCLR applauds the hard work of the diverse coalition of groups and individuals who worked tirelessly in Colorado to stop this measure.””
