As Hispanics’ quinceaneras get more popular, many get more lavish
“This is the day she dreams of.
The big white dress. The attendants. The limo. The reception. The cake.
Her quinceanera.
It might look like a wedding, but this rite of passage marks a Hispanic girl’s transformation from a girl into a young woman.
The tradition for 15-year-olds is generations old, but today’s quinceaneras look different from their mothers’ days. Mama didn’t put her invitations on a Web page, didn’t scope out dresses at www.be15.com, didn’t shop for a photographer at a quinceanera expo, didn’t take a quinceanera cruise and certainly didn’t have MTV knocking on her door.”
