Knowledge is Power!

“Seeking to reach its Latino consumers in a novel manner, Health Net of California will open an insurance store today to provide face-to-face service in East Los Angeles.

The company began an ambitious, cross-border outreach program in April called Mexi-Plan, specifically targeting Mexican immigrants. As the latest part of the initiative, it will operate a storefront, 5055 Whittier Blvd., which it calls the first of its kind in the nation. Staffed by two bilingual representatives, the shop will sell insurance, provide educational material and pass along information about public programs such as Medicare and Healthy Families.

“We learned that the Latino community prefers personalized, one-on-one service,” said Ana Andrade, vice president of Latino programs for Health Net of California. “We found that they weren’t asking who can I call, but where can I go to learn more? We want to be a neighbor in the community, so this brings us closer.”"
