“As Nashville’s health-care community races to keep up with an exploding Hispanic population, culture, language, money and fear continue as obstacles to adequate, timely treatment.

“When they come here, they are very sick,” said Bill Tait, the manager of La Paz Hispanic Clinic on Nolensville Road, one of several clinics that have sprung up in recent years to cater to the Hispanic population.

The staff at La Paz, like those at a few other clinics, is fluent in Spanish to overcome the language barrier.”
