“Immigrants from Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia have for years had a sizable presence in the front seats of U.S. taxis. But today, it is Latino immigrants such as Calderon who are turning the Raleigh taxi business on its head.

The city’s list of taxi companies now includes El Expresso Taxi, Hossana Taxi, Los Tigres Taxi and Taxi Fiesta.

They are a licensed and registered part of the city’s estimated 350-cab fleet. Raleigh taxi inspectors expect two others to join the rolls soon.”
