Knowledge is Power!

“Diabetes is of a group of diseases characterized by high levels of glucose. Ninety to 95 percent of Hispanics with the disease have type 2 diabetes, which develops in adults. A smaller number, 5 to 10 percent, have type 1 diabetes. This type develops before the age of 20.

So why is the Hispanic community at such a disadvantage? Compared to the white community, our community is at lower economic and education levels. Proper education and health care would help Hispanics become more knowledgeable of what diabetes is, what its effects are on our bodies, and how to prevent it or treat it if we already have it.”
