“Just days after his proposal to make English the official state language was tabled by the Ohio House, state Rep. Courtney Combs said Monday he believes the bill can be resurrected.

Combs, R-Hamilton, introduced the “English Unity” bill with the intent of pushing Hispanic and Latino immigrants to learn English. Languishing in the House for two months, though, lawmakers worried it would have unintended consequences ”” such as discouraging overseas businesses from investing in the state ”” and tabled the measure in a 65-28 vote Friday.

Although such a move can be the kiss of death, Combs said he thinks he can muster enough support to get the bill off the table and into law.”
