“A year ago, the Santa Ana resident started the United Mexican American Veterans Association for members to exchange war stories and record them in an oral history project. He wants more public recognition for the military contributions of Mexican-Americans.
Cal State Fullerton is polishing up the transcripts for a separate oral history project on Mexican-American World War II veterans. The project consists of written transcripts; Bella’s group will do video documentation.
Today the veterans association is holding its first event, a potluck at Mile Square Regional Park in Fountain Valley. It has about 25 members, but Bella said he hopes this event will boost membership.”
