Cuban Musician Heads Spanish Charts

“Cuban pop singer David Blanco holds the second place in the charts of the important Spanish radio station Tropical 102.9 FM with his song “Botao en Madrid”.

According to official sources, the band holds the second place preceded by the theme “El Optimista” by the Group Eight and Half.”

Kevin Lawrie will assume the role of President, Latin Region, SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT, it was announced today by Michael Smellie, COO, SONY BMG. The appointment is effective January 1, 2006. Mr. Lawrie, who is based in Miami, is currently President, SONY BMG Norte.

For Santa Fe musician Felipe Ruibal and his salsa and cumbia band, Quemozo, the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver was about more than a bunch of talking heads. It was a place to play a high profile gig. The former lead singer of the band Nosotros was selected—along with several other musicians from across the US—to play on the opening night of the convention at a party in honor of the DNC Hispanic Caucus.
