“Hazleton needs more doctors to provide care to a population swelling as Latinos move to the area, according to comments made Wednesday during a meeting of a medical ethics panel. Amilcar Arroyo, publisher of the city’s Spanish newspaper, El Mensajero, told the panel at Hazleton General Hospital that doctors also might have to adapt to the customs of their patients who are Latinos.

Many come from countries where they are used to bartering or negotiating fees – a concept foreign to American doctors who are used to receiving set payments from insurance companies.”
