“Minnesota educators leading students in the Pledge of Allegiance would be required to use an Engish version of the pledge under legislation announced Monday by Rep. Marty Seifert, R-Marshall.

Seifert was one of the sponsors of a 2003 law requiring the pledge be recited at least once a week by all public school students.

“I just assumed common sense would dictate that the Pledge of Allegiance in the United States would be said in English,” Seifert said in a news release. “Now I hear that in Kenwood Trail Middle School in Lakeville students are now doing this in Spanish and it’s not just a piece out of a Spanish class, but incorporated as the pledge for all students.”"
