“The notion of thousands of National Guard troops along the U.S.-Mexican border would not have discouraged Leo Mendez, he says, from trying to cross illegally for a better life.

The Passaic resident, who crossed the border illegally with his wife and child almost two years ago, is among many Mexican immigrants in North Jersey who assailed President Bush’s plan, announced Monday night, to deploy National Guard troops to increase security on the U.S.-Mexican border.”
