“One of Mississippi’s congressmen Monday night praised President Bush’s proposal to order as many as 6,000 National Guard troops to secure the border with Mexico, but another criticized it as “robbing Peter to pay Paul.”

“We must secure our borders to guard against drug smuggling, people smuggling and terrorist infiltration,” said U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering, R-Miss. “We must enforce our laws regarding those who illegally enter our country, and also those who illegally employ them. And we must not reward lawbreakers with amnesty.”
