“State Rep. Angel Cruz’s real opponent is not on the ballot Tuesday.

Cruz, the Democratic leader of the Seventh Ward and the only Latino legislator in the state, finds himself under attack on two fronts by rival powerbroker Carlos Matos.

First, Matos is running the campaign of William Cartegna, 43, a former city social worker seeking to deny Cruz the nomination for a fourth term in the House. And Matos also is pushing a slate of candidates for Democratic committee positions Tuesday, in the hope of deposing Cruz when it comes time to pick a new ward leader in June.”
