“When William Colon went to renew his New Jersey driver’s license recently, he was told that his Spanish-language birth certificate from Puerto Rico would not suffice. Had it not been for the government of Puerto Rico’s office in Newark, Colon may have lost his driving privileges for awhile.
“They really expedited things and I was able to get a birth certificate in both English and Spanish,” said Colon, of Jersey City. “It saved me a lot of trouble.”
Had the same thing happened in the past week, however, Colon wouldn’t be driving.”
