Knowledge is Power!
“Outreach efforts have demonstrated success as 70 percent of eligible Hispanic seniors are now receiving prescription drug coverage. The enrollment figure represents exceptional support for a federal program in its first year by the Hispanic community.
“We are reaching out and working with the Latino Community to ensure that every Hispanic senior not only knows about Medicare’s new drug benefit but also has the information they need to determine which plan is right for them,” Assistant Secretary Carbonell said. “Seniors need to enroll in Medicare Part D before May 15 to avoid paying a penalty — the time to join a Medicare drug plan is now.”
Carbonell reported that HHS is a local presence at senior centers, churches, neighborhood community centers, libraries, Social Security Offices, and other meeting places throughout the United States. HHS launched the Medicare Mobile Enrollment Center Tour to help people locally by providing individual counseling on the new coverage. To date, the Medicare Mobile Enrollment Center Tour has visited more than 300 cities and small towns across the country, including many communities with high Hispanic populations. As part of the tour, Spanish-language counselors are available to assist local seniors and to enroll them in Medicare drug plans.”
