“Placentia-Yorba Linda school officials on Wednesday said 230 Hispanic students at Esperanza High in east Anaheim were pulled from classes for pep talks on this week’s state standardized test because their group performed poorly on past exams.

District officials said the move was part of a larger strategy that began two weeks ago with notes, letters, one-on-one meetings and calls to 1,480 of the 2,200 students who would be taking the test.”
