“It’s one thing to excel when teaching students a subject, but it’s something else to excel teaching students a subject in a different language.

By all accounts, MacArthur School sixth-grade teacher Rocio Hernandez certainly is something else.

“When we heard she won (the National Dual Language Teacher of the Year award) we thought, ‘Well, of course, she won,’” said Principal Yolanda Valdez. “Her dedication and the time she spends on lessons and students — that comes through daily. She’s continuously perfecting her craft.”"
