Cancer claims Latin singer

“Born in New Jersey to Colombian parents, Soraya was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer in 2000. She made as much of a name for herself for her struggle with the disease, and for her efforts to persuade the Hispanic community to confront what was often a hidden killer, as she did for her graceful, passionate pop-rock music.

Just last September, Soraya was urging women to seek early treatment as part of her yearly efforts on behalf of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, for which she was a spokeswoman.”
