“An unforeseen fallout of the recent immigration reform marches has been the criticism levied against student marchers who cut class to illustrate their support for their families and friends who have no legal standing in this country. Many times, these students were marching on their own behalf as well.

Yet, critics of the marches were quick to pounce on the students’ participation by accusing the Latino community-at-large of not caring enough about these students’ education. Otherwise, the critics say, the students would have been encouraged to stay in school. “
