“April brought no change in the unemployment rate for Hispanics, staying at the same 5.4 percent it was in March, according to data released today by the U.S. Department of Labor. The overall U.S. unemployment rate was also unchanged at 4.7 percent.
The unemployment rate is the ratio of unemployed people divided by the total labor force, comprised of both the employed and unemployed. People are considered unemployed only if they are actively seeking work at the time they are surveyed for the sample. Therefore, whether people are considered in the labor force at all can also fluctuate.
