“L.A. County Supervisor Gloria Molina was honored as the 2006 Woman of the Year alongside five other finalists at the 4th annual Hispanic Business magazine Woman of the Year Awards Gala on May 4, 2006 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The exclusive event honors the accomplishments of successful Hispanic women throughout the nation who have made a significant impact in the realms of business, government, and academia. Maria Silva from KVBC News 3 in Las Vegas presided as this year’s Mistress of Ceremonies.
“I was absolutely enthralled by the speeches…It was the best awards banquet I have attended in years, primarily because I left inspired,” stated Robert L. Wells, Vice President of Bank of America.
Gloria Molina made history in 1991 when she became the first Hispanic woman to be elected as a supervisor in L.A. County, giving her one of the largest constituencies of anyone in the country. Ms. Molina’s political career began in the 1970s with the Chicano movement. She was elected to the California State Assembly in 1982 and then to the Los Angeles City Council in 1987, where she served until running for supervisor.”
