“”Ilove it, but I hate it, too! It’s crazy. It gets so I can’t take care of my people the way I want to,” said Leo Cervantes, owner of Chilango’s Mexican Restaurant in Highlands.
Cervantes was talking about the considerable increase in his restaurant’s business today ”” Cinco de Mayo ”” May 5 ”” a commemoration of the Battle of Puebla, when 4,000 Mexican soldiers defeated the French army of 8,000 at Puebla, Mexico, 100 miles east of Mexico City, on May 5, 1862.
Cinco de Mayo is not to be confused with Mexico’s independence day, from Spain ”” Sept. 15. Kelly Burrough, Oceanport, said Juanito’s Mexican restaurant in Red Bank, where she is manager, has its biggest celebration in September.”
