Knowledge is Power!
“The peaceful outpourings around the country that constituted “The Day Without an Immigrant” on May 1 looked like a huge success. A formerly sleepy U.S. minority, dubbed perpetrators of an “aggravated felony” worthy of deportment by a House of Representatives bill, showed it could build organizations and motivate millions to plead for justice.
The one-day slowdown was a dicey tactic. Workers who punch a clock can ill afford to lose a day’s pay. It’s why college campuses were such fertile ground for protests. If students had to earn their bed and board by attending class, turnout even at Berkeley would have been a lot smaller.”
