Hispanic businesses show varying responses to rally in Chicago, Illinois

“As supporters of immigrant rights rallied Monday across the nation, including 400,000 in Grant Park in Chicago, some local businesses closed their doors today.

Several stores and businesses in Wauconda put notices in their windows Monday, alerting customers they would not be open.

Three Amigas Supermercado, 450 state Route 176, had posted a bright green sign on the front door that read, “Cerrado en apollo al paro nacional del inmigrante … We are closed May 1, 2006.” Loosely translated, the passage in Spanish reads: “Closed in support of legalization of immigrants.”"
