As immigrants rally downtown, Pilsen shuts down in Chicago, Illinois
Tagged: Pilsen, population“Employees in areas with high Hispanic populations returned to work Tuesday after spending Monday participating in the massive immigration rights march downtown. Streets in Pilsen and Little Village were humming again after being practically deserted Monday.
“Most of Pilsen people gave their employees the day off,” said Juana Cortes, the executive director of the Pilsen Together Chamber of Commerce. “All Hispanic-owned businesses were closed [Monday] on 18th Street . . . and I think on 26th [Street] also.”"
