Immigrant labor center supporters unseated in Washington suburb in Virginia

“Voters unseated the mayor and two Town Council members who supported the creation of an immigrant day-labor center in a contest that some considered a mini-referendum on the divisive issue of illegal immigration.

Voters replaced all but one incumbent with challengers who immediately called for significant changes at the center. Some want to bar public funds from being spent on the center or limit it to legal immigrants, and others want to move the center to another location.”
