“Broadcast pioneer Jose E. Chapa, who hosted what is considered to be Chicago’s first Spanish-language radio news program from the basement of his suburban Chicago home, has died. He was 86.
Chapa died Tuesday of renal failure at a St. Charles nursing home. His death was confirmed by George Schuth, funeral director at Yurs Funeral Home in St. Charles.
Chapa’s 30 years on the air were guided by a belief that his audience was starved for information about current events in their native countries.”
