“To Colombian born Carlos Acosta, the gap between the words “Hispanic” and “Latino” is as wide as the ocean.

” ‘Hispanic’ makes much more of a reference to Spain and those roots,” said Acosta, the 40-year-old executive director of the McHenry County Latino Coalition.

“I consider myself Latino, and yet my dad calls himself Hispanic,” he said.”
