Chanting “We are American” in Spanish and English, Latino immigrant rights supporters gathered in downtown Newark on Sunday to pressure Congress to reform the nation’s immigration laws. North Jersey

“”We have to keep the pressure on,” said Democratic Assemblyman Albio Sires of West New York. “One of the most important issues we face today is immigration.”

The rally, which started in Lincoln Park and culminated with a march down Broad Street to Military Park, was organized by the Immigrant Rights Defense Committee of New Jersey. March organizers say the committee represents more than 100 groups of Latinos who live throughout the state and come from all over Latin America.”
