“Immigrants plan to march through downtown Danbury streets on April 30 and boycott businesses and schools the next day.

The two days of local activism coincide with a national effort in which immigrants from California to New York plan to take to the streets to highlight immigrant contributions to communities, the economy and culture.

On May 1, a Monday, “the kids don’t go to school. They don’t buy anything, and they don’t go to work,” said Maria-Cinta Lowe, executive director of the Hispanic Center of Greater Danbury. “I don’t know if everyone will participate. For survival, some people must work to eat.”"
