Illegal worker sweep called sign of times

“Illegal immigrants who were rounded up at a Guilderland pallet-making company returned to their homes Thursday with little hope of remaining in the United States as federal authorities pledged more crackdowns on businesses that employ illegal immigrants.

Homeland Security Director Michael Chertoff said Wednesday’s raids netted more than 1,140 arrests of illegal immigrants. Felony charges against seven current and former managers for IFCO Systems North America, including three people in the Capital Region, marked the nation’s largest single interior immigration sweep on record, he said.”
